"Queen of spades" cropped cardigan in Tunisian Crochet

THE MAKING OF A LOVELY CARDIGAN IN TUNISIAN CROCHET In the last little while, as you may have noticed, I have been working on an ambitious project: the creation of a Tunisian crochet garment, using a leaf motif (or "spades", as I preferred to call it) already seen in some wonderful knitting projects. First, I thought about replicating the spade pattern in Tunisian crochet, which was not difficult, as I have created similar patterns before - you can find them, for example, in these projects of mine: Leaf it On Shawl , Leaf it On Scarf , Leaf it On Cowl .  Leaf it On Scarf Next, I thought it best to make a garment that had a simple workmanship, i.e. worked flat, and not in the round, to avoid, at least initially, over-complicating the design. A cardigan, therefore, was the best choice. Next, I chose a yarn that I liked and opted for a fine multicoloured yarn. This was the result: "QUEEN OF SPADES" - THE CAL! I liked the finished garment very much, and so did you, whic

A CROCHET PURSE TO PLAY "GROWN-UP"

Sometimes, when I go out with my baby girl, she asks me if she can take her own crochet purse I made for her, since I am always carrying my bag with me. She sees me and wants to do the same: she wants to play grown-up, you see? It's what they do at this age. She goes around, all serious and self-conscious, so proud of herself.

And I always allow her to bring her own crochet owl purse with her, because this small crochet bag I created for her is extremely comfortable but sturdy and safe at the same time. The bag's strap is robust enough and the purse has a closing zip, so I know she won't lose what she puts inside, and I'm confident she won't lose the crochet purse itself, since she can wear it comfortably as a crossbody mini-bag.

A CROCHET PURSE AS TOY-FRIEND

Now a bag is a status-symbol for a grown-up woman: we love to wear bags that underline our style, a fundamental accessory to complete our look, and we often want it to be branded by the trendiest (and usually most expensive) designer names. But a kid doesn't really care about these things, does she? Most probably she would grow tired of her trendy accessory within minutes, and we are usually forced to carry her bag as well as ours for the rest of the time until we get back home. By making a crochet purse in the form of an owl I no longer have this inconvenience: my daughter sees the purse as a toy and as some kind of animal friend, someone she wants to play with and a pet to keep her company all the time and to cuddle with occasionally. Someone (something) she doesn't want to separate from. So she carries her own bag and she's happy with it: happy child, happy mom!

CROCHET OWL PURSE

This is the story of my daughter Alice's crochet owl purse. This small bag has proved so successful with my girl that I decided to create a listing for it as custom order in my shop. You find it here: CROCHET OWL PURSE
